Violin Teaching Podcasts

Looking for some teaching tips or ideas as the school year kicks off? These violin teaching podcasts are filled with conversations that get your creative juices flowing. If you are not part of a teaching studio with other teachers, it’s easy to get into a rut. We all need other people to help us learn and sharpen us. I have found these podcast give me ideas of repertoire, recital ideas, practice ideas, and push me to explore some new ideas.

Maybe you have had some push back or questions from parents on some of your teaching philosophy. I have listened to some episodes of these podcasts and thought “I’m not crazy!” or “I’m not the only one that thinks this!” You’ll find encouragement along with all the helpful tips. Just this week as I was listening to Beyond the Music Lesson they responded to a question from a parent about a student’s self-initiation. Their responses and comments helped me:

  1. To remind parents of their job as practice-partner to initiate practice.
  2. Tell parents that a child’s lack of  self-initiation does not equal not liking the instrument. Self-initiative developed slowly and at different rates in each kid.
  3. To help parents see they aren’t the only one in the world struggling with this.
  4. See that other teachers have these same conversations.

This podcast is for parents and teachers. As both hosts are teachers and parents of Suzuki students. You might find passing this podcast to parents will give them some good food for thought and home practice tips when they are in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life.
