But, his compositions for string players are significant in string repertoire. String players should be familiar with his chamber works, the string quartets, piano trios, quartets, and quintets. Schumann began composing at age 7.
Robert would entertain his friends by improvising music that characterized one of them. And they could all guess which friend he was describing by how he played and would all burst out laughing.
His family sent him to the university to study law. But he left after a year.
Friedrich Wieck was his piano teacher. And Robert fell in love fell in love with his daughter Clara.
He is known for his programatic compositions.
Robert Schumann had great composers as friends. He was friends with Johannes Brahams, Niccolo Paganini, Felix Mendelsohnn, Hector Berlioz, Joseph Joachim, and Frederic Chopin.
A disability or chronic condition in his right hand ended his performing career.
He began hallucinating. And fearing that he would cause harm to his wife, he requested that he be institutionalized at insane asylum. Many different theories exist as to what caused his symptoms.
