Mary Did You Know – Piano Solo with Violin

Description

An early intermediate setting of the popular Christmas song, Mary Did You Know? The left hand has simple repetitive patterns making it easy for the student learn and read. A single note melody is in the right hand for the verses and chorus. The bridge uses minimal chords. The student moves up and down using parallel 5ths. This allows the hand shape to stay the same. The early intermediate student will be challenged in rhythmic counting and precision.

Play this as a piano solo or offer your student the opportunity to experience chamber music with a friend. The violin/cello part is also at an intermediate level. Use this arrangement or Mary Did You Know for studio recitals, church services, or personal enjoyment. The student will be sure to enjoy this setting in any occasion.

Violin Part:  Level 4: The arrangement is in the Key of C. The left hand techniques have the violinist shifting into 2nd position and 3rd position. Also, it includes one double stop using open strings and one grace note. Finally, a natural harmonic closes the piece. They will encounter syncopated rhythms. Since the violin doubles the melody on the bridge, the syncopation should not be too hard. Lastly, the player will find a wide dynamic range in this arrangement. Since the violin plays harmony at the beginning and end, they player needs to listen carefully not to overpower the piano.
