Winter’s Snow Christmas Violin Duets
Winter’s Snow is a collection of Christmas violin duets that I wrote in 2009. The first two books of arrangements that were published with Soundforth did not have recordings available with them. Some of my students will learn these this fall. I had some extra time this summer and so I decided to record these duets. Since I am a Suzuki teacher and I do a lot of online teaching, having recordings for my students is a high value for me. I saved the recordings in 4 different formats. The first is the violin duet with piano accompaniment. Next there is a recording of each part with the piano accompaniment. Finally, I created a recording of the piano accompaniment alone.
Winter’s Snow Editorial Comments
I’d like to think I’m older and wiser since I wrote Winter’s Snow Christmas violin duets, but it might just be the older part. I did make a few tweaks to two arrangements. First, See the Winter’s Snow. You will hear that I put in a fermata in the piano part of measure 24, the last beat. And I added another fermata in measure 53, beat 3. It also seemed that speed that the tempo marking was a bit fast for my liking these days. (Again, maybe this is just the older age talking.) I recorded it at the quarter note equal 78.
Second tweak, was the tempo for The Sussex Carol. It is marked that the quarter note is 84. I think the quarter note is a error, since it should be dotted quarter. Then, I also slowed the tempo to dotted quarter equals 68. The dotted quarter equal 84 seemed unplayable. And 68 seemed fast enough and lively tempo.
