Play the violin part in first position. Although some string crossing passages would benefit from 3rd position if the player is comfortable. Set in the key of G, you will find the Irish Tune, Donegal Mazurka woven in with the Christmas hymn. The cello part has very limited 3rd position work. It is perfect for the early intermediate player. The violin begins with the melody and then the melody passes to the cello.
