New Christmas Violin Solo
Here is a new Christmas violin solo that is hot off the press. I have a couple students that are going to start working on it for fun. It’s not hard. The arrangement can be played in first and third position with one big shift at the end going into 5th and 7th position. We have been working really hard on 3 octave major and minor scales this semester so step wise pattern in 5th and 7th, shouldn’t be out of reach for them. (No pun intended.)
I wanted the arrangement to be majestic. In thinking about this wonderful text by Charles Wesley, I had in my mind the description from Isaiah 6. The author describes angels praising and worshiping God in heaven. I don’t know why it would be any different when they came to announce the birth of God the Son, Jesus.
Isaiah6:1 -3
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

I wanted the opening piano accompaniment to sound like angels with multiple flying wings. It should sound blurry, excited, energetic, all the things that would happen when angels come to tell good news.
Hopefully this arrangement adds beauty and majesty to your Christmas service, Christmas Eve service, or any musical Christmas celebration.
