Left Hand

  • Excellently fingered. Uses 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th positions.
  • Changes key for the trio from A minor to A Major.
  • 17 measures in 3rd position – accidentals  in the section will challenge the student to find relative half-steps and some diminished 3rds all fingered for 3rd position.
  • Practice/ Preview spot – m. 42 G# half diminished 7th chord; 1st finger extended back to 2nd position – 2nd finger in 3rd position, 3rd finger in 4th position, 4th finger extends for 5th position the moves down a half step into 4th position.  Not really shifts, but working with spreading fingers from base knuckles and extending. 
  • As with all pieces in this collection it is a good intermediate piece that incorporates shifting in and out of positions.

Bowing

  • Bowing marked.
  • 3 sixteenths in using circled down bows

Rhythm

  • Dotted eighth sixteenth pattern followed by sixteenths.
  • Tango rhythm – sixteenth, eighth,  sixteenth
  • Ties over the bar line into the first note of the tango rhythm. Preview the rhythm and counting m. 22 – 28.
  • measures with 1 beat of triplets. Student will need to move from eighth, sixteenth counting into triplet counting for 1 beat.
